Students will have physical education 3 quarters in a school year. During the other quarter, students will have health education with Mrs. Flowers or Mr. Biddle. While in PE, students will participate in many different sport and fitness units. There are many activities including but not limited to, basketball, volleyball, flag football, team handball (Lombard only), badminton (Lombard only), pickleball, soccer, and softball.
Furthermore, students will be able to work on a variety of machines, such as treadmills, a stationary bike, and an elliptical machine in our fitness room. There is also a rock climbing wall, free weights, resistance tubing, fit balls, and individual workout mats. This will add to the wonderful merits of exercise students are currently receiving. We all know there are many benefits of exercise from preventing chronic health conditions to boosting confidence and self-esteem. Fitness is about improving endurance, flexibility, and strength. Being in good shape can give a person more energy, reduce anxiety and depression, and can help an individual manage stress. We are very proud of our physical education program.
PHILOSOPHY Quality instruction in physical education involves the "whole child" by providing psychomotor, cognitive, and affective benefits. Not only does it contribute to the overall goal of education, but also contributes to the development and continuation of fitness, motor skills, social skills, health, and brain development. Good fitness habits that are started at a young age can increase the possibility of carrying over into adulthood, improving overall health and quality of life.
